Thanksgiving is very specifically not a nachos holiday. In fact, based on what the pilgrims ate it should really be more “waterfowl, venison, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash” rather than Turkey, but even then, nary a nacho mentioned. Probably because they weren’t invented for another 300+ years, but we’ll never know. You shouldn’t be eating nachos on Thanksgiving, it’s just not done, but there is no law saying that you can’t eat Thanksgiving leftovers the following day ON nachos, so you should do that. You can try this one or this one or this one or this one or this one or this one or this one, totally up to you. No mater what you end up eating however, hopefully you have a great Thanksgiving.
National Nacho Day
As we all know, November 6th is National Nacho Day, since we 100% need a localized version of nacho celebration 16 days after the international one because USA USA USA I guess. I don’t think it’s news to anyone that nacho holiday or not we’re probably eating the delicious dish today, but if you’re shamed into needing a reason to eat them you’ve sure got one now. If you’re really lucky perhaps a child will even draw a picture of you making nachos. What does the “5” mean when placed between 6 and a half drawn nachos? What exactly is at 568%? How did I acquire such a fantastic sombrero? Only the imagination of a child combined with the magic of nachos could tell you. There are many a holy day in the nacho calendar, Cinco de Mayo, Ignacio Anaya’s Birthday, the anniversary of Carmen Rocha’s death, etc, but to have your whole country behind you and your nachos on this day is truly an incredible experience. Dig in my friends and eat your fill.
International Nachos Day
Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July, all holidays with recognizable dates that your calendar probably already has marked. One day however that is probably not on said calendar (and if it is please let me know as that's a calendar I would like to purchase) is October 21st, International Nachos Day. And by "October" I of course mean "Octchober" because if there's a day to make nacho puns on it is today.
So how do we celebrate such a day? Some people try and consume five pounds of nachos in one shot. Others leave an empty chair and place setting at their table in tonight during their nacho dinner in honor of Ignacio Anaya. Really so long as you're eating some nachos in some fashion you're probably good. And perhaps if you're lucky the spirit of Ignacio Anaya will come visit you tonight, as this is the one day of the year when the veils between the worlds are weak enough that he is allowed to venture forth in search of the perfect plate of nachos...
